About this tour

Colombia drinks coffee every single day and almost nobody has seen where it comes from. This experience settles that in one morning: you put on the hat, the poncho and the picking basket, walk into the plantation and learn to tell a ripe cherry from one that is not there yet. What you pick does not stay in the photo — you run it through the pulper, watch it ferment and dry, and in the farm laboratory you find out why two beans from the same tree can end up tasting different.

Then comes the cupping, which is where this stops being a walk and turns into something else. Specialty coffees are brewed side by side in several methods — chemex, V60 and Japanese siphon — so you can compare them: the same origin shifts in acidity, body and sweetness depending on how it is extracted. It closes with a mountain feast: paisa fiambre served on a banana leaf in clay dishes, with pork belly, chorizo, ground beef, egg, rice, mashed potato and fried plantain, a traditional dessert and a final pairing with local artisan liquors.

The farm is 30 to 40 minutes from Medellín and runs a single tour a day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with limited spots, so the group stays small and nobody is rushed. It costs USD $52 (about $160,000 COP) per person and does not include transport: if you need it, we quote it and pick you up at your hotel.

The route, step by step

  • Arrival at the coffee farm, 30-40 minutes from Medellín
  • Welcome cup of the house coffee
  • Traditional dress: hat, poncho and picking basket
  • Walk through the farm and the plantation: how coffee is grown and how to spot a ripe cherry
  • Picking in the coffee field and pulping what you just picked
  • The process in the farm laboratory: fermentation, drying, hulling and roasting
  • Guandolo, the traditional sugar-cane drink, to cool down
  • Cupping of specialty coffees in chemex, V60 and Japanese siphon
  • Mountain feast: paisa fiambre on a banana leaf in clay dishes
  • Traditional homemade dessert
  • Closing pairing with artisan liquors from the region
  • A Café Atardecer souvenir to take home

What is included

  • Farm and plantation walk, with picking and pulping
  • Cupping of specialty coffees in chemex, V60 and Japanese siphon
  • Mountain feast (paisa fiambre), traditional dessert and artisan liquor pairing
  • Travel insurance and a Café Atardecer souvenir

Not included

  • Transport from Medellín: if you need it, we quote it separately based on group size

Tips from people who do this every week

  • Wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes: you walk through the plantation and the ground is hilly
  • Come hungry — the mountain feast really is a feast
  • Mornings tend to be clearer for photos in the coffee field
  • Ask about transport when you book: it is not in the price and it is a 30-40 minute drive from Medellín

Frequently asked questions

How much does the coffee farm tour cost?
USD $52 (about $160,000 COP) per person, transport not included. That covers the full farm walk, the cupping, the mountain feast, dessert, the liquor pairing, travel insurance and the Café Atardecer souvenir. If you need the transfer from Medellín we quote it separately based on group size.
How long is it and what time does it start?
There is a single tour a day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The farm takes a limited number of people to keep the group small, so it is worth booking ahead.
Where is the farm?
30 to 40 minutes from Medellín, up in coffee-growing hills. We confirm the exact address and meeting point when you book.
Is lunch included?
Yes. The mountain feast is part of the experience: paisa fiambre served on a banana leaf in clay dishes, with four proteins — pork belly, chorizo, ground beef and egg — plus rice, mashed potato and fried plantain. Then the traditional dessert and the artisan liquor pairing.
Do I need to know anything about coffee?
Not a thing. The whole point is that you arrive knowing nothing and leave understanding the full process, from the plant to the cup. The guides work on the farm and explain every step while you do it yourself.
Is it good with kids?
Yes, and it usually works very well: picking cherries, cranking the pulper and eating off a banana leaf goes down well. Tell us how many are coming and their ages when you book so the farm can plan for it.
Can you arrange the transport?
Of course. We quote a private round-trip transfer from your hotel or Airbnb in Medellín based on group size. Message us on WhatsApp and we will send you the price.
How do I book, and how fast do you reply?
Message us on WhatsApp at +57 314 361 5483 or send the form on this page with your date and group size. We reply on WhatsApp within minutes with availability and your pickup time.
How do I pay? Is there a deposit?
You hold any service with a 30% deposit and pay the rest at the end of the service, in cash, by credit card or by bank transfer (Nequi, Bancolombia), in Colombian pesos. If you are outside Colombia, you can pay the deposit by credit card. We send you the deposit details on WhatsApp when we confirm.
Can I change the date or cancel?
Yes. Moving the date or cancelling is just a WhatsApp message; we only ask for as much notice as you can give.
